Keep those sticks sharp

Hey all.

Thought I’d share a little tip I learnt recently from the Master and his tutor, namely Duncan Osbourn and Russ Deakin.

Recently I’ve been feeling as though I was struggling to feel where the control sticks of my JR DSX12 were under my thumbs and overheard Duncan say he was going to get Russ to sharpen his transmitter sticks. A quick look at my own ones revealed rounded rather than sharp edged knurling on top of them.

So, with needle file in hand I removed my stick tips and proceeded to file them to sharper points again. On refitting it soon became apparent how much nicer it feels to have the grippy feel of the points on your thumbs, you feel much less worried about your fingers slipping off while stirring away.

Has it helped the flying? Yes it has, but I still need to practice giving pure elevator only inputs for those precise flipping loops, but having sharp sticks again is a good thing in general.
